The old kiln "Tongluo Kiln" in Zhusen Village, Tongluo Township, Miaoli County has a history of more than 50 years. It has witnessed the rise and fall of the Miaoli Kiln industry. It has been passed from the second generation of Zhang Shihao to the third generation of Zhang Weihan. In addition to inheriting traditional techniques, Zhang Weihan has also added innovative thinking, and his creations have also changed from wine urns to firewood pottery and living pottery. The Tongluo kiln was founded by the late potter Zhang Xinxiang in 1967. At the age of 17, Zhang Xinxiang took Fuzhou old potter Li Yiwu as a teacher to learn the hand extrusion technology. Later, the second generation Zhang Shihao and Peng Xiumei took over the operation. Traditional pottery daily necessities such as water tanks, flower pots, pickles, etc. won the bid of Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Company in 1983, and began to produce big wine urns with a height of 145 cm each, a urn diameter of 90 cm, and a capacity of 500 liters.Although 28-year-old Zhang Weihan was irritated, he felt that the work of the pottery factory was too heavy and hard. It was not until he graduated from college that he saw his father Zhang Shihao running around the old kiln factory. Then he realized his responsibility and mission. In 2013, he officially entered the pottery factory and paid his respects to the old pottery Xu Xinchang was a teacher and learned the techniques of pottery making.Zhang Weihan said that due to changes in the environment and changes in living habits, traditional kilns have fallen or closed, causing traditional industrial skills to break down. In order to inherit the ancestral old kilns, continuous research and innovation must be carried out. Lin Yingrui jointly studied the changes of glaze, and his works have increased from the original wine urns and water tanks to firewood pottery, large landscape pottery, and life pottery that take into account the practicality of life.
