油紙傘為高雄美濃地區特有的客家文化象徵之一，更在客家人的生活中扮演著重要的角色，除了實用性的遮風避雨用途外，也象徵吉祥的寓意。因為客家話的「油紙」諧音為「有子」，就是有子嗣的意思，所以客家的男孩在 16 歲成年禮時，父母便會贈與一對紙傘，而「傘」字中有四個人，又代表人丁興旺，所以在女兒出嫁時，父母也會贈與一對紙傘，預祝百子千孫。方型的油紙傘突破傳統圓形的設計，以新式圖形的概念，為傳統客家文化注入新活水，撐起不一樣天空。
The oil-paper umbrella is one of the cultural symbol in the Hakka culture in the Meinong Region in Kaohsiung. It plays an important in the Hakka life. It not only can keep out wind and rain, but also symbolize the auspiciousness. Because the “oil paper” in Hakka language is pronounced like “Having Childing,” the parents will give a pair of oil-paper umbrellas. The Chinese character for “umbrella”consists of four people which means a flourishing population, so that the parents will also a pair of oil-paper umbrellas to their married daughter to wish they have children. Unlike the traditional round design, the square oil-paper umbrella is a breakthrough design which consists of new patterns to vitalize the tradition Hakka culture to expand into new territories.
